Background: University of Wales Trinity Saint David
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is part of the UWTSD Group, a confederation of several institutions which includes Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion as constituent colleges. August 2017 saw the integration of the University of Wales and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The UWTSD Group offers a continuum from further to higher education for the benefit of learners, employers and communities.
Challenges
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) has Campuses located across England and Wales (including overseas students). The University therefore wanted to ensure that all information and resources required for their studies was readily available to all students, regardless of their mode of study or location.
Requirements
The University was looking for a way to provide students with easy access to all information and resources required for their studies throughout their student journey. A key requirement was for the solution to be available in both English and Welsh as UWTSD is a Welsh University.
The Ready Education Solution
Implementation of the white label myday product
With the implementation of myday, one of Ready Education’s digital solutions, UWTSD met the expectations of their students by having all the resources in one place.
The Hwb App, and the physical Hwb helpdesks (located on the Welsh Campuses), were introduced in September 2019. Their main purpose is to provide a one-stop shop to support students throughout their learning journey at UWTSD.
The HWB app provides students with everything they need, in both English and Welsh - access to key platforms such as their MyTSD (student portal), Moodle (VLE), Timetable and University emails.
Adoption of the app reaching 90%
Furthermore, since the Hwb contains crucial information, such as being the only place where students access their timetable, the adoption of the solution has reached 90%.
The availability of students' digital ID (proof of enrollment) on the app has played a pivotal role in driving the app's widespread adoption and usage. Once downloaded, students immediately recognize the immense value the app brings to their entire learning journey.
The multi-lingual pages make life easier not only for the administrators but also for the students; they set the language they would prefer to see, and everything is displayed in either English or Welsh. Having a bilingual option in the app and portal was “non-negotiable.”
If it wasn’t for Ready, we
wouldn’t be where we are now.
Having the timetable only available via the app makes it an essential download for our students and we are delighted that adoption is currently at 90%.
If it wasn’t for Ready, we
wouldn’t be where we are now.
I feel really proud because of our engagement with the Alumni. We’re really pleased to be seeing Engagement already. We really like the new professional look too and look forward to carrying on the journey with Ready Education.
Outcomes
Maximizing Student Engagement with myday.
Since its implementation, myday has achieved an impressive 90% student adoption rate. This high level of adoption is attributed to the app's essential features, such as access to timetables and digital IDs, which are exclusively available through the application. With these functionalities at their fingertips, students find it indispensable to have the app on their devices.
Moreover, catering to a bilingual student body of 22,000, the application's bilingual interface has proven invaluable. Not only does it streamline administrative tasks, but it also enhances the user experience for students who prefer to engage with the app in their preferred language.
One of the most notable benefits observed since the app's implementation is a significant reduction in general queries received by the university. This decrease underscores the app's effectiveness in providing students with the necessary information and resources, thereby minimizing the need for additional inquiries.
Furthermore, the app's multiplatform compatibility ensures that all students, regardless of their device preferences, can enjoy a seamless campus app experience. Whether students use iPhones or Android devices, they can access the app's features and functionalities with equal ease, enhancing their overall campus experience.
